The Deer Lake Red Wings stand undefeated after seven games in the West Coast Senior Hockey League following a back and forth game with the Port Aux Basque Mariners.
Deer Lake’s Ryan Penney opened up the scoring with a goal at the 3:41 mark of the first period and added his second of the night at 8:27. The Wings continued to roll in the first, extending its lead to 5-0 after the first period as Alex Tulk, Noah Legge & Luke Parsons added goals in the opening period.
The Mariners scored at the 10:56 mark of the second period to make it 5-1 but Luke Parsons of the Wings made it 6-1 scoring shortly after with his second of the night. The Port Aux Basque team would then score three times in the the next 3 minutes, as Robert Parsons scored a pair of goals with his team mate Robert Mercer scoring to make it a 6-4 Wings lead after two periods.
Mariners Dylan Savory scored at the 0:56 mark of the third to make it a 6-5 score. Stephen Simms of the Wings made it 7-5 shortly after. Dylan Savory then completed his hat trick with two more goals, making it 7-7 with just under 5 minutes remaining. Ryan Penney gave the Wings the win at 18:52, scoring his third of the night to keep the Deer Lake team undefeated in the season.
Penney finished the night with 7-points (3G/4A). Luke Parsons of the Wings had 2 goals and an assist for the winners. Dylan Savory had a 4-point night for the Mariners (3G/1A) while teammate Robert Parsons chipped in a pair of goals and an assist.
Deer Lake’s Jeff Murphy picked up the win while Byron Francis was tagged with the loss.
