Mariners Fall to Royals

The Port Aux Basque Mariners lost another game, remaining winless in the 2019-20 West Coast Senior Hockey League.

The Royals jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Wilfred Bellows scored at the 5:04 mark of the first period. Nick Childs made it 2-0 Corner Brook just 2 minutes later. Josh Smith extended the Royals lead with a goal at the 8:51 mark. The Mariners got on the board late in the first with just 4-seconds remaining as Robert Parsons scored.

The Royals had the lone goal in the second period as Ryan Roche netted a goal, making it 4-1 Royals after 2 periods.

The Marines stormed out of the gate in the third period. Darren Dean opened the scoring in the frame on the power play, making it 4-2 Mariners. Robert Parsons scored his second of the night as the Mariners closed the gap to a single goal, making it 4-3 at the 12:55 mark. The Royals put the game away with an empty net goal by William Keating at the 19:58 mark.

The Royals record improved to 3-3-1 with the Mariners falling to 0-6-0. Bradley Power picked up the win making 42 saves for the night. Ryley Nadon was handed the loss, stopping 33 of the 37 shots he faced.

Nick Childs and Ryan Roche had 3 points (1G/2A) for the Royals.  Robert Parsons had 2 goals for the Mariners in the loss.

League action resumes on Saturday night with the Mariners & Wings squaring off in Deer Lake.
