The Corner Brook Royals headed into Gander to meet the Flyers for the first time this season. After earning three splits in their open series, the Royals were looking to get their offense going and needed several of their hopefuls to start putting pucks in the net.
In the first game of their two game series, Hunter Tremblay put the Royals up 1-0 on a goal assisted by Chris Hulit. These two players had to start contributing and this was a great start to the game. Early in the second period, import Phil Mangan made it 2-0 Royals on a nice goal setup by Mathieu Berube at 7:26. The Gander Flyers responded less than a minute later when Chad Lock brought the Flyers to within a single goal. Cory Blackmore extended the Royals lead to 2 when he popped a goal assisted by Mangan and Bragg, giving the Royals a 3-1 lead after 2 periods of play.
