With the Western Royals sitting above them in the standings, the Eastlink CeeBee Stars were in a great position to pick up some ground on their rivals. The Royals headed into town after defeating the first place Grand Falls-Windsor Cataracts last weekend and the CeeBees were looking at continuing their streak after making some big roster moves.

The Eastlink CeeBees were all over the Western Royals in the early stages of the game, scoring two goals in the opening frame. Colin Feehan put the CeeBees up 1-0 scoring on a pass from Ben Duffy and Jordan Escott on the powerplay. Matt Quinn popped in the second goal for the CeeBees who kept the Royals bottled in their own end and ultimately took a 2-0 lead into the dressing room after the first period.

Down two goals, the Western Royals came out flying in the second period, skating like a team on a mission. They out hustled the CeeBees and put puck after puck on the net until Michael Hynes stuffed a loose puck behind Roger Kennedy, cutting the lead to 2-1. The CeeBees restored their two-goal lead when Ray Dalton scored to make it 3-1.

The Royals didn’t give up and Chris Peach pulled the Royals to within 1 after scoring on a pass from Colin Power. The second period ended with the CeeBees clinging to their one-goal lead at 3-2.

In the third period, the Royals scored early to make the game 3-3 on a goal by Zach Firlotte. Matt Bragg restored the CeeBees lead scoring to make it 4-3.

Despite continued pressure from the Royals, the CeeBees hung on to their lead and extended their post-Christmas winning streak to 3 games.
